Wow...we made it and lived to tell the tale. We are in the apartment, have already had some beer and laid in some provisions to sustain us tomorrow when we wake up. It's 11:30 AM (Dallas time) here and we are *very* tired. After getting some sleep a detailed email update will follow. For now, the Yanks have landed.

Today is travel day. Our bags are packed; we are ready to go. The pickup vehicle will be here in a couple of hours.

Of course the cats sense something is happening so they are mugging us for love and attention. We sure miss the little critters when we are on trips and sometimes they even miss us.

Got an email from the guy renting the apartment a couple of days ago. He's abroad somewhere but he wanted me to know that both the phone and Internet connection were on the fritz. He said he'd return from his trip early to get us a cell phone so we could contact friends and family. I responded that it was a great offer but getting the Internet connection restored was WAY more important than a cell phone.

The next day he sent me an update saying that "he had been told" that the phone and Internet connections were both now fixed. Since he put in the disclaimer that he only had second-hand information, I'd give it a 50-50 chance of having it when we get there.

As said so many times in this blog, we are SO ready for a vacation. Regardless of the usual problems or frustrations of international travel, we are planning on a great trip and some great beers and cigars. We have one request from someone on the mailing list to get a photo of Jeanie smoking a Cuban cigar. Be glad to, we may post it here or give a link to where I can post it. Of course, all this assumes that the internet connection is up and running. It is supposed to be Broadband instead of the usual phone line dial-up. If that actually happens...we will be happy campers.

The next entry hopefully will be from the apartment as we gaze out over the Thames. Failing that, it may be from an Internet cafe or some other alternate means. Even if we have to resort to smoke signals on a hilltop...you will hear from us soon.

Cheers,
J&J
